The event formerly known as the Tasmanian Tomato & Garlic Festival has morphed into the Tasmanian Heirloom Festival.

The event will be taking place on March 15 at Quamby Estate at Hagley.

Festival organiser Monique Artis said the name change reflected a desire to expand and have more on display for patrons than just tomatoes and garlic.

“A big focus is about food security and having good local food that can be grown here and suited to our climate,” Ms Artis said.

“We want to encourage people to grow more of their own stuff in their backyard and be less reliant on supermarkets.”

Ms Artis said she expected up to 4,000 people to attend the festival, now in its 12th year.

“Last year, when we moved to the new location at Quamby Estate, we had just over 3000 people attend, which was a record.

“We’ve increased the capacity this year to get even more.

“In the first year, there were only 500 people, and it’s been building up ever since.”

Tickets for this year’s Tasmanian Heirloom Festival are $17 for adults, with under-16s allowed to enter for free.
