Leigh Titmus

A very well written piece.
Three other points I would like to raise.
One is the negative effects on rural communities which ceasing native forest harvesting would cause. The disappearance of district schools, stores, bus services, fire brigades etc would decimate these communities.
Secondly, by stealth, the Group of four are using every avenue possible to put an end to native forestry as we know it today. The Federal Government environmental legislation which was rushed through parliament on the eve of Christmas 2025 with the backing of the Greens in the Senate is being used to lock up native forests for carbon credits. But there has been no additional carbon being created here to improve the baseline. The carbon sequestration rules are a sham in themselves and are not equitable.
And thirdly, the cessation of native forest harvesting would and is blowing out our massive $2.5B trade imbalance on forest products with the rest of the world and exporting environmental problems in countries where environmental standards are no where near our high standards in Australia.
