BREAKING: Gun caps defeated

A Labor amendment to seek to impose caps on the number of firearms that individuals can own has been defeated in Parliament's Lower House.

The proposed cap, which sought to limit the number of guns an individual could own to five for recreational hunters, and 10 for farmers and competitive shooters, was the most controversial aspect of the Government's gun law reform.

The amendment was defeated 16 votes to 15.

FOR: Labor, Greens, Burnett, George, Johnston

AGAINST: Liberals, Di Falco, O'Byrne, Garland, Razay.

Debate on the amendment lasted for several hours, with passionate contributions both for and against from all sides of Parliament.
