It was later than hoped, but the dahlias are in bloom at The Patch at Table Cape.

This is the second year The Patch has operated at the Table Cape Tulip Farm site, with the location designed to showcase other flower crops.

The Patch manager David Roberts-Thomson said the dahlias have bloomed several weeks later than usual.

“We have had to be very patient this year, the late season and cooler summer has really slowed up the dahlias” Mr Roberts-Thomson said.

“It's quite a relief to see them come into bloom finally.

“Dahlias are quite resilient but love a bit of warm weather.”

Mr Roberts-Thomson said he hoped to have 5000 people visit this season.

“It's a challenge to start a new thing, but we are really encouraged by the reception we have had.

“It's been really satisfying and we are proud of what our team have grown here.”

With it being a largely rural region, Mr Roberts-Thomson said the North West was ripe for more agritourism ventures.

“As a farmer, you forget just how difficult it is to get out onto a farm.

“The general public are quickly losing touch with the land that grows produce.

“When they have that connection, the conversations start.

“We believe that people want these connections and are willing to pay for experiences but making it fun and pretty helps.”
