Agfest patrons would have noticed a big new shed on the eastern side of Quercus Park.

The DairyTas shed was completed less than a month before Agfest.

It cost around $500,000, with the state government contributing $350,000.

DairyTas Chairman Luke McNab said the shed had been a long time coming.

“A dairy farmer and anyone involved in the dairy industry can walk in during Agfest and know a million people,” Mr McNab said.

“We’ll be able to use this facility for training and other things throughout the year, and Rural Youth will use it too.”

Primary Industries Minister Gavin Pearce said the DairyTas Shed was spectacular.

“It is an investment in the future of an industry that’s important not only to our state, not only to me personally, but important to the future of agriculture in Tasmania,” Mr Pearce said.

“The dairy industry is our biggest land-based agriculture.

“It’s worth in excess of $680 million with a total revenue of more than $1 billion, and we produce in Tasmania almost 12 per cent of Australia’s fresh milk.

“That’s something to be very proud of.”
