Shorthorn cattle led the beef parade
SHORTHORNS have had success both in the show ring and in carcass competitions through-out the state in the previous 12 months.
Once again demonstrating the performance shorthorns can offer in pure or cross-breeding programs.
The Shorthorn breed is truly unique, from their distinctive roan colour, to their rich breed history and most importantly, the wonderful community of breeders, there is nothing else quite like a Shorthorn.
The key to the Shorthorn breeds advantage lies in their balanced genetic profile, driven by market participation that has been developed and refined, after more than 200 years of genetic selection under Australian conditions.
The Tasmanian branch of the Shorthorn Society of Australia is proud to sponsor our youth and encourage involvement in the agricultural sector.
The inaugural Tasmanian Branch Shorthorn Bursary was won by Amy Willey in 2025 and the 2026 successful entrant was Sophie Smith awarded at the recent Tasmanian Junior Beef Expo.
The Tasmanian branch also had an extremely successful field day in 2025.
A day enjoyed by shorthorn enthusiasts and beef producers alike. Information and assistance in gaining insight into shorthorns and shorthorn genetics is easy – just reach out to your local registered Shorthorn Member. https://shorthornbeef.com.au
