April 24, 2026. DESPITE some predictions or wishes for a steady market the Australian wool market was very strong this week with a gain of 70 cents in local currency terms.

AS we near the end of the 2026 autumn weaner calf sales, last week we headed down to Powranna where Nutrien yarded 3,431 cattle with another excellent line-up of mainly Angus bred weaners.

After a week off for the Easter Recess the wool market resumed its upwards trajectory in a very solid fashion.

MOST of the talk around the saleyards still remains in relation to the very good livestock prices being achieved over the past few months, but there is also some concerns on the effects of the Middle East war and in particular fuel prices.
