QUAMBY Plains Annual Ram Sale will be held on the November 16 at 1pm, with the sale being interfaced with AuctionsPlus.

The 52 sale rams are chosen from more than 300 young rams, therefore allowing for high selection pressure.

The average micron for the sale rams is 21.8, with excellent colour and density.

The rams are well grown, have been 100 per cent grass fed and have good confirmation. They are shorn in early March and then again in early August, so as to give a meaningful micron test. Within the sale team there are 18 Corriedale gold performance rams. These rams are ranked in the top 10 per cent for MWP+.

Quamby Plains’ stud priorities are fertility and early growth through LambPlan EBVs. Thus, maximising gross margin returns for our own 3500 flock ewes, as well as our clients. The stud is increasing muscle and body shape in selection of rams and replacement ewes to meet market expectations.

Quamby Plains is a member of the Performance Corriedale Group, which is a progressive group of like minded breeders pushing the boundary of Corriedales and always striving to improve the breed.

There have been excellent improvements in fertility and early growth EBVs. There are Corriedale rams in the top five per cent of the maternals for carcase traits of shear force and intramuscular fat.

The sires of the sale rams are a very exciting and powerful sire team, probably one of the best we have ever had.

The sire team has very high early growth, stylish white low micron wool, excellent weaning rate and heavy cutting fleeces. Among the sire team is sire 230244 who is currently the third ranked sire in Australia, with MPW+ 179.34.

Quamby Plains commercial flock of 3500 ewes is pure Corriedales. Ewes are of moderate adult weight of 60-75kg, with excellent fertility and mothering ability.

Two thirds of the aged ewes are mated to Poll Dorests and lambs sell to Coles and average 23.5 kg dressed weight at fat score three.

Enquires and inspection are welcome.
