Valma’s record-breaking offer
A record-breaking offering is in store for Valma this December, with 352 rams set to feature in what will be their biggest sale to date.
“The catalogue comprises of 214 Poll Dorset and 138 White Suffolk rams, reflecting the continued growth of our breeding program,” principal Andrew McLauchlan said.
“The increased Poll Dorset offering comes at a significant time for the industry,”he said.
“Following the dispersal of Melton Vale’s stud last year, a considerable gap has been left in the Poll Dorset ram market and we see this as an opportunity to help meet the demand, with an additional 60 Poll Dorset rams included in this year’s catalogue.
“While numbers have grown considerably, we haven’t lost sight of what matters most – quality.
“We believe this year’s team represents an improvement on previous years, with depth and consistency right across the offering.
“Of this year’s catalogue, 95 per cent rank in the top 20 percentile band or higher for at least one trait when compared with all terminal sires across Australia, which reflects our ongoing commitment to genetic progress, performance and structural soundness.
“Our flock holds Ovine Johne’s Disease MN3 status, with full vaccination maintained since 2002. We are also Ovine Brucellosis Accredited Free, Footrot Free and Lice Free.
“All sheep are fully vaccinated with GlanEry 7in1 and receive Multimin, Cydectin LA and oral Triguard
With an increase in numbers backed by improved quality, we believe this year’s offering provides an excellent opportunity for producers to secure genetics that will contribute positively to their breeding programs.”
