Mobile phone service disruptions due to upgrades
Telstra is upgrading its mobile base stations serving Miena, Liawenee, Steppes, Reynolds Neck and Brandum.
The company’s Regional General Manager for Tasmania, Michael Patterson, said the upgrades would deliver a better 4G user experience.
"We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country,” Mr Patterson said.
“As data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion for customers.
“The work will also make the site ready for a further upgrade to Telstra's even faster 5G service in the future.”
Mobile services in the area will be temporarily affected and users will receive texts with information on the upcoming work.
Landline, NBN and Satellite internet services, plus mobile coverage from other providers, will not be impacted.
Any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will automatically connect to another mobile network, if available, to access emergency services.
The sites that are being upgraded will be switched off from 7am on December 8 to 6pm on December 11.
Telstra customers can continue to make calls and send texts during mobile service disruptions by switching on Wi-Fi calling.
