National freight award for Page Transport

Carrick-based livestock transport business Page Transport has won the Application of Technology Award at the 36th Australian Freight Industry Awards (AFIA) held on Saturday night at Melbourne's Crown Palladium.

The gala event, hosted by the Victorian Transport Association (VTA), was attended by 500 guests and included representatives from all the major supermarkets.

Page Transport was recognised for its innovative, Australian-developed platform that seamlessly integrates its freight, warehousing and logistics operations into a single, unified system. 

While there is similar software available on the market, a $300,000 investment for what is now a patented program called PageCloud, has delivered technology for the business that is far more refined, specific and applicable for Bass Strait transport.

Owner Geoff Page said that customers can log in and track their freight, verify numbers and delivery times, upload livestock declarations or report issues, while truck drivers can report faults, upload proof of delivery documents, invoices, record hours on the road and much more.

“All of these kinds of details are what the big supermarkets thrive on and this modern-day freight tracking and management system last month delivered them 99 percent efficiency with a 48-hour delivery service between Tasmania and Victoria,” Mr Page said.

“The system has now been in place for six years and we're proud of how it’s streamlining access to data and documents for clients and delivering accurate information which is so important in the food chain.”

“We have more modules to add which will further cover the livestock side of the business so you could log on and see, for instance, if lambs are in the yard, on the water, when they’ll arrive and if there’s any discrepancy in numbers.”

The Application of Technology Award was supported by Transport Certification Australia and is awarded to groups or an organisation that has applied technology systems to their business to solve a problem, enhance productivity or improve effectiveness and efficiency.
